Eat Orange In September To Help Feed Westchester

The Kick Off For Eating Orange Campaign

This year I was introduced to the Eating Orange Campaign in collaboration with Feeding Westchester. I was invited to the kick off party by my friend Kate. I was astonished when I found out that in one of the most affluent counties in the country, 1 out 5 people in Westchester are food insecure! This cause is near to my heart because I believe no one should have to choose between paying their bills or a meal.

The kickoff took place at Penny lick’s Factory in Port Chester. At the event, I met Nicola who is the Director of Community Engagement at Feeding Westchester. I learned more about the non- profit organization. We also talked about how I can volunteer. And I’m excited to take part in a packing challenge in October.

I sampled the delicious “Drunken Pumpkin” ice flavor from the host of the event Penny Lick Ice Cream. I also had the hearty Harvest Celebration soup from Ladle Of Love. Once trying the habanero sauce from the Greekish, I became a fan. And satisfied my sweet tooth with a sugar cookie from Batter That Matters. All in all it was a successful kick off! Keep reading to find out more and how you can get involved.

Kate Schlientz And Feeding Westchester

Kate is kind and a superwoman! I have  featured her in my “Meet Westchester Women In Business” blog post. She is the CEO of Communicate Media LLC and also has a radio show. Kate is passionate about giving back to the community. For the third year in a row, she has teamed up with Feeding Westchester and local restaurants to “Go Orange”. This was created by her for Hunger Action Month for the month September. This is a great way to create awareness about ways we can help Feed our community and an easy way for restaurants to get involved. Kate’s motto describes it beautifully  When we eat everyone eats“!

Feeding Westchester is the leading nonprofithunger-relief organization in the county.

It has a network of more than 300 partners, who source and distribute food. And other resources, to feed people who are hungry all across Westchester. Their mission is to end hunger in the county, click here to find out more.
