It has been really easy getting dressed in the mornings ever since I decided to create a Fall Wardrobe Capsule. The other day as I stood in front of my closet and saw my options, I thought to myself, “How does anyone put an outfit together and what makes an outfit?” That is what inspired me to create this post!
Hopefully you love everything in your closet. If not, it’s time to do a closet cleanse and get rid of what doesn’t fit and what you have not worn in the past 2 years! The clothes you are left with becomes your wardrobe and keeping it organized is key! With an organized closet you can view your options quickly. So, with those points taken care of, below are way you can put an outfit together.
- Think about where you are going and how practical your outfit will be for the occasion. For example, for some places you might want a more casual outfit like when you are running errands vs an outfit you would wear to work. This seems obvious but dressing for the setting will help you when picking out your outfit.
- Also, think about your mood and how are you feeling that day. If you are feeling happy wear something lively and bright. If you are feeling blah (you know one of those days where you are just not feeling it) you might want to wear something dark and comfortable. The choice you make depending on your mood will complement the outfit. Your attitude while wearing an outfit is everything!
- Dress for the weather! This is another obvious one, but sometimes we forget and go outside thinking it’s warm. When the cold air hits your skin, you realize how cold it really is. You are running late, and there is no time to turn back and change. Dressing for the weather can sometimes save you shoes, you do not want to get stuck in the rain with suede shoes!
- Know how to dress for your shape! We women come in all beautiful shapes and sizes. Own your shape and your curves and dress it up! Clothes are meant to fit you not the other way around. I can go on and on about how important it is to dress for your body shape. I can write a whole blog post (and let me know if you want me to) on it because there is so much information. Here is a little tip: If you are petite and want to make your legs longer, wear the same color bottom and shoes this will give the illusion of longer legs.
- Everyone starts putting together their outfit differently. You can pick a statement piece like a printed pair of pants and base the rest of the outfit around that. Or you can start with a basic foundation, like blue jeans and a t-shirt and add other pieces to elévate it and express your style.
- The rule of 4, an outfit should consists of 4 items: Your foundation or statement piece, jewelry, shoes, handbag. You can change the whole look of a basic foundation of an outfit with the accessories. Don’t over do it with accessories, unless that’s your style. With that being said rules are meant to be broken and fashion is meant to be fun! If you feel comfortable and confident in your outfit then that attitude will shine through!
